New Vocal Ensemble Being Formed!

The Bellevue Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society is excited to announce that it is seeking men and women to join a new ensemble specifically designed to mix male and female voices. Along with the Chapter’s Northwest Sound Men’s Chorus and Classic Sound Senior Chorus, the new ensemble will offer the opportunity to sing in a high-quality auditioned group.

The Purpose

The new ensemble will be committed to singing exciting and unique arrangements, predominantly in the barbershop style.  The ensemble will perform as often as possible, occasionally with the Northwest Sound chorus, as guests on other shows and festivals, and as paid performers.

The Music

In addition to music arranged in the barbershop style the ensemble will also draw arrangements from other musical genre.  The ensemble will evaluate arrangements that fit the vocal ranges of its members and draw upon the talents of our two Bellevue based arrangers, Ken Potter and Matt Astle, as well as other well-known arrangers.

Musical Director

The director of music will be Ken Potter, director, music educator, BHS music category judge, champion quartet singer, and vocal coach.

Auditions

Membership to the ensemble will be by audition only.  Singers will be given a vocal audition, testing vocal quality, and musical accuracy and ability. Ability to read music is not required, however, members will be expected to prepare and learn music on their own between rehearsals.

Schedule

Our first rehearsal is scheduled for Sunday evening, August 4, in Issaquah. The attendees at that rehearsal will discuss date options and decide on a "permanent" evening for rehearsals. Currently Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings are under consideration.

Auditions:    Auditions will be held after rehearsals, maximum of two candidates per evening. Rehearsals are open and guests are always welcome.

Rehearsals:   TBD - 7:00 to 10:00 pm

Rehearsal Site

The rehearsal site has yet to be determined.
