Bill Hickman is the barbershop vagabond of Northwest Sound. The son of a professional musician, Bill was raised in Sparks, Nevada and worked his way through the University of Nevada as a musician and then left music altogether and began a 30 year career with the US Navy. It was more than a decade later that his wife decided he needed a hobby and found a local barbershop chorus for him to join in Fairfax, Virginia. She may have regretted that action because since joining the Fairfax Jubilaires in 1981 Bill has never looked back Since that happy event he has travelled extensively and as a result has sung in 6 different barbershop districts and with 8 different choruses. In addition to the Fairfax Jubilaires these have included the Masters of Harmony (California), the Narragansett Bay Chorus (Rhode Island), the Hemil Hempstead Highwaymen (BABS), the Big Chicken Chorus, the Atlanta Vocal Project (Georgia), and the Kitsap Chordsmen (Washington). In these choruses Bill served variously as Program VP, section leader, show chairmen, Assistant Director, choreographer, and a perennial member of the music team, the visual team and the chapter board. In between he found time to sing in several quartets and to coach numerous groups. Bill finally settled for good in Issaquah to enjoy his golden years and joined Northwest Sound in 2012.
