Doug Hutson

Doug Hutson learned about Northwest Sound the way many of us did: by overhearing someone on a bus. Doug, a pilot for Delta Air Lines, happened to hear a fellow Seattle pilot and now Northwest Sound brother, Mike Rinehart of Alaska Airlines, talking about a wonderful barbershop organization in which he was singing. His curiosity piqued, Doug struck up a conversation with Mike and before he knew it he was coming in weekly for Sing Sing Sing in the fall of 2015. Doug learned a lot, had a blast singing on stage, and by March of the next year, he was a member.

Doug grew up in the Bay Area and went to school at Cal Berkeley. It was there that he first started singing in a group, in the aptly named UC Men's Octet. While he has sung with a church group in the intervening years, Northwest Sound has been the first time Doug has sung in such a large group. This is also the first time Doug has been a part of a quartet. He's currently singing lead in Four Under Par.

After chorus, Doug returns home to Medina to his wife and two children, Jenna (10) and Ryan (8). He met his wife in Japan when she was working as a flight attendant and they lived together there for a year and a half. Once they moved to the US, Doug's wife stayed home to take care of the kids (and Doug as well). In whatever free time he has after jetsetting, singing, and running after the kids, Doug fixes up his house, which is his lifelong project.
