David has been in barbershop since 2011, starting in the Federal Way Harmony Kings chorus. In 2017 he came to Northwest Sound’s Sing, Sing, Sing program with members of his quartet, intending to pick up some Christmas repertoire. Within two rehearsals David was working on the audition piece for Northwest Sound. His audition was in the second week of January 2017 and the rest is history.
David is a quartet veteran, having sung in the Harmony Knights with NWS member Bill Esworthy, Don Rau, and Bob Wilkie for six years. He continues to sing and be active in both choruses. In the Federal Way chorus he is a section leader, assistant director, script writer, and music librarian. In the spring of 2017 he sang in a Northwest Sound quartet intiative quartet. In addition to barbershop David sings in his local church choir and Cora Voce, a mixed choir in Tacoma. When not singing in the church choir he sings with the contemporary praise team leaders and does some solo work.
David is an Oregon boy from Coos Bay on the Southern Oregon Coast. He returns there whenever he can. Married to Kim for 34 years as of this writing, he has three boys, ages 17, 23, and 28. All are taller than him. One became an Eagle Scout and the youngest is working his way toward Eagle. This takes a lot of support from parents. Most recently, Kim and David led a week-long trip (8 boys and their families) to their property on the southern Oregon coast. The scouts went on day trips every day, played in the lake, and went fishing. The boys earned as many as 4 merit badges each.
David is retired after thirty years with Boeing where he did IT work, user support, database design, workstation support, disaster preparedness, and project management. A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in computing he was well placed to begin his career.
